WOMEN are being urged to keep their appointments with a mobile breast screening unit, which is touring parts of the county.
The unit is going to the ambulance station in Thirsk in April to provide routine screening for women living locally. It will also visit Northallerton, Hawes, Leyburn, Bedale, Richmond and Catterick over the coming months.
All women over 50 are invited for free breast screening every three years. Women aged from 50 to 70, who are registered with a GP, are routinely invited and should receive an appointment. Women over 70 are encouraged to make their own appointments and can telephone the breast screening unit at York on (01904) 725590 or contact their GP surgery.
A new poster has been launched to encourage women over the age of 50 to attend regular screening. Iris Smith, of Hambleton and Richmondshire Primary Care Trust, said: "I hope that the posters will raise awareness of the importance of breast screening and encourage many more women to attend their appointments."
