A MULTI-MILLION pound railway museum is expected to welcome its 100,000th visitor today.
Locomotion: National Railway Museum, in Shildon, County Durham, has been hailed a huge success since it opened in September last year.
It was estimated that the North-East's first national museum would attract about 65,000 visitors a year when partners National Railway Museum and Sedgefield Borough Council created the venture.
Six months since it opened, that figure has almost doubled. The museum is also in the spotlight after being shortlisted for Britain's biggest art award.
Bosses were told last week that they were down to the final four in the Gulbenkian Museum of the Year Awards. The winner will be announced in May.
