A FRUSTRATED football fan's 35 years of hollering at his struggling side have ended in surgery to save his vocal cords.
Stuart Canvin, 42, has experienced highs and a lot of lows in his days as a fan of Conference side Scarborough FC.
The vending machine repair man's booming voice is well known at the Seasiders' McCain Stadium as he roars encouragement at the side he first saw at the age of seven.
But, in recent weeks, his bellow has become little more than whisper.
When he visited a specialist, he was told his years of yelling had resulted in a polyp and a cyst on his vocal cords.
Stuart, chairman of Scarborough Supporters Association, said: "I was told there is no other reason for this apart from shouting on the lads.
"I've had some great times as a Scarborough fan but it goes without saying that it can be very frustrating as well.
"I've always been a very vocal fan - I wear my heart on my sleeve where Scarborough are concerned."
Stuart said that his girlfriend, Sarah, enjoyed a couple of days peace after the operation because he could not speak at all. He has been ordered to keep quiet during matches, but reckons that will not always be possible.
