ANIMAL welfare bosses are desperately appealing for someone to offer a loving home to a three-legged dog which has endured a miserable start to life.
Sky was still undergoing treatment at a veterinary practice, in Darlington, yesterday after being handed to the RSPCA earlier in the week.
The one-year-old lurcher was suffering severe problems with one of her back legs when she was taken to the charity.
The leg had to be amputated and RSPCA officials are hoping that a good home can be found, to save Sky from the stress of being put into kennels.
RSPCA inspector Garry Palmer said it was thought that the dog had undergone an operation recently, but had not received proper follow-up care - causing major problems with the healing process.
"She's a good-natured dog and so lovable that we feel really sorry for her," he said.
"Although she's only got three legs, she's very mobile and faster than most other dogs."
Anyone who wants to offer Sky a home is asked to contact Mr Palmer at the RSPCA on 08705 555999.
