A REGENERATION specialist who has been at the forefront of the Tees Valley renaissance for a decade has been appointed as chief executive of Redcar Racecourse.
The racecourse said the appointment is the first stage of an expansion plan to develop as a major sporting venue.
Neil Etherington will take up his new role from early June. During his time as chief executive of the Tees Valley Development Company, and more recently as investment and marketing director with Tees Valley Regeneration, he played a role in bringing jobs and investment to the area.
He helped attract call centre operations for Abbey National and Churchill Insurance, worked with various agencies on ensuring chemical company Huntsman's newest plant was built on Teesside, and helped bring Argos Direct's distribution centre to Darlington.
In total, his team helped to create 12,500 jobs in 115 different projects, with investment totalling almost £500m.
The 47-year-old's resignation follows that of Tees Valley Regeneration's founding chairman, Peter Middleton, in January.
