QUAKERS' promotion hopes took a knock over Easter with just one point from two games leaving them just outside the play-off zone in eighth spot in Coca-Cola League Two, writes Andy Brown.
David Hodgson's men followed up a woeful 2-0 home defeat by second-bottom Kidderminster Harriers on Easter Saturday with a 3-3 draw at Bristol Rovers on Easter Monday.
The Harriers' defeat came in front of a crowd of 6,972 as the North Stand at the Williamson Motors Satdium was opened amid much razzamatazz.
But the game was a disaster. New striker Akpo Sodje, on loan from Huddersfield Town, wasted two good chances for lacklustre Quakers before two defensive clangers by Matty Appleby and Brian Close allowed the visitors two goals in the last ten minutes.
A side showing six changes headed west and took the lead in the opening seconds against the Pirates when Craig Russell netted his first goal of the season. Rovers equalised just before the break but then a Craig Hignett penalty and a superb solo effort from youngster Jason St Juste looked to have won the game, but the home side levelled with two goals in three minutes.
Tomorrow, Quakers are at home to lowly Chester City in a must-win match. They will be without injured striker Alun Armstrong but welcome back fellow front-man Clyde Wijnhard after suspension.
* Club skipper and talisman Craig Liddle's career could be over. The 33-year-old underwent a knee operation this week which has ended his season, and the stalwart defender may decide to call it a day after a succession of injuries.
