VISITORS to a nature reserve can find out what they can do to make their own garden a wildlife haven at an event next week.
Durham Wildlife Trust is to hold a Wild About Gardens event at its site at Rainton Meadows Nature Reserve and Visitor Centre, near Houghton-le-Spring, on Sunday, April 10.
The event is part of a national scheme organised by the Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts and the Royal Horticultural Society to raise the profile of gardening as a simple and effective way of protecting wildlife.
Visitors can find out what steps they can take in their gardens to attract wildlife through a series of guided tours of the trust's wildlife garden at Rainton Meadows.
There will be regular talks on the importance of wildlife gardening, as well as competitions and practical activities such as tree planting and making small garden planters.
The event takes place from 11am to 3pm and admission is free.
