A SMILE has been brought to the faces of disabled children after the donation of more than £5,000 for a minibus.
St Margaret's Way Respite Home, in Brotton, east Cleveland, provides vital respite for parents and guardians of youngsters.
Marianne Dixon, manager of the home, described the minibus as a lifeline for taking children out on day trips.
Councillors and trade unions at Redcar and Cleveland Council have donated £5,500 towards the cost of buying and running the vehicle.
The donation was made by the council's joint liaison committee, an equal partnership of trade union members and councillors.
Mrs Dixon said: "Without the donation we would not be able to run the minibus and that would leave the children heartbroken."
The 12-seater bus has been used to take children to Whitby, Flamingo Land, Lightwater Valley and Scarborough. The children decide where they would like to visit.
St Margaret's Way provides respite care for 54 children.
