GRANDMOTHER Diane Downing had nearly four million reasons to smile yesterday.
The 60-year-old has scooped £3,964,330 as her share of the Lotto's double rollover jackpot.
She now plans to treat husband Kevin, 63, to a top-of-the-range Harley Davidson motorbike and herself to a rather more sedate VW Golf.
Mrs Downing had no idea she was a millionaire when she went to bed at her home, in York, on Wednesday night.
"I had been out and it was late when I got back, so I went straight to bed. When I got up on Thursday I looked up the results on Teletext and checked the numbers," she said.
"At first I thought I had just got five numbers, but I called in Kevin to check and he said, 'No, you've got six - that's the jackpot'.
"I was completely stunned. So Kevin and I did the most obvious thing - we put the kettle on, made a cup of tea, sat down and try to let it sink in."
Mrs Downing is now planning to buy a new house and treat the family, including her two sons Julian, 40, and Jeremy, 38, and their four grandchildren to a holiday in the sun. The win could not have come at a better time as Jeremy and his wife Debbie are expecting a baby in May. Mrs Downing also intends to go back to Melbourne in Australia where she once lived to catch up with her old friends.
"Although we are already thinking about how we will spend the win, the first thing we will do is to book a week's holiday to get away to think about it all.
"We will probably go to Scarborough as I can't think of a better place to relax," she said.
