CABBIES will face fewer medical tests if Darlington Borough Council passes new proposals.
The council's licensing department has produced a report, which aims to bring taxi drivers' medicals in line with heavy goods vehicle and bus drivers.
The current regulations for taxi drivers request them to submit a medical report every three years.
The changes proposed by the licensing team will mean drivers will have to have a medical test once every five years, although drivers over 60-years-old will still need to take a medical once a year.
The report will go before the council on Thursday and the changes are expected to be made immediately.
Cabbie Nigel Nevison said: "Drivers will welcome this."
