RUSH-HOUR traffic was held up by an accident that left a horse box blocking the A690, in one direction, near Durham, last night.
The alert was raised after the horse box overturned near a railway bridge, between Stonebridge and Langley Moor, west of Durham, at about 2.30pm.
As a vet was called to tend to the injured horse and diversions were put in place for westbound traffic heading from Durham.
The horse had to be sedated before firefighters were able to remove it from the overturned horse box, with the vet overseeing the operation.
Westbound traffic was diverted through Ushaw Moor, New Brancepeth, and back on to the A690 at Langley Moor.
