ROYAL Air Force officers have handed over a cheque for nearly £21,000 to Macmillan Cancer Relief.
The money was raised at RAF Leeming last summer during a weekend of events. The highlight was a Tornado pulling competition, featuring 15 teams from the Army and RAF representing bases across Britain. There was also an auction of unusual prizes, including a flight in a Hunter aircraft and a day at the set of Emmerdale, which raised more than £8,000.
Sqn Ldr Tigger Jeffries and event organiser Flt Lt Sally Naude presented a cheque for £20,769 to Wilma Burniston, fundraising manager for Macmillan. Fl Lt Naude said: "Having lost my father to cancer four years ago, and knowing many other have had similar losses, I know first hand what a worthwhile charity this is.
"The nurses do wonderful work, not only for those with cancer but also for those left behind."
