A SWIMMING club is celebrating after winning accreditation from the sport's governing body.
Durham City Swimming Club has been awarded Swim 21 as a "skill development club'' at silver level by the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) and been given a Sport England Clubmark certificate.
Swim 21, the ASA's club development programme, aims to assist clubs in helping their swimmers, teachers and coaches achieve their full potential.
The club has to maintain or improve its standards or accreditation will be withdrawn.
It says that the Swim 21 award will open more sources of funding, while the Clubmark designation will give it greater recognition.
The award will also help the club access the Active Sports programme funded by the Lottery Sports Fund, which supports youngsters with ability and potential.
A club spokesman said: "The Swim 21 process ensures that our swimmers are able to access the coaching and facilities they need to progress as far as they want, even Olympic level.''
