Thirsk School and Sixth Form College has been described as "very good" by Government inspectors.
A team from Ofsted inspected the school from January 31 to February 4. They concluded that 91 per cent of the lessons they observed were either good, very good or excellent.
The report states that the curriculum is good and the school offers a wide range of enrichment activities which enjoy much support from the students.
It was also noted that students are well cared for and well supported and advised by their teachers.
Headteacher Chris Lewis said: "It is very gratifying to know that Ofsted recognised the quality of provision supplied by the teaching and support staff and the high standards achieved by our students.
"They also noted the particularly strong relationships which exist between the school, its parents and governors.
"Despite the fact the inspection schedule is now even more rigorous than when we were last inspected, in 1999, Ofsted still place us amongst the best performing schools."
The report also comments on the high achievement of the full range of students, from those with particular learning difficulties to the most gifted and talented.
Chairman of governors, Graham Cressey said: "We are delighted that the school has received the praise it deserves. Thirsk School is a special place and everyone connected to the school should be proud."
