A WOMAN is planning a marathon sponsored walk to support a charity for the homeless.
Helen Holyome, of Hurworth Place, near Darlington, hopes to walk 101 miles in 48 hours to raise money for First Stop.
The event, organised by the Long-Distance Walking Association, will take place in the Chiltern Hills, Buckinghamshire, on May 28 and 29.
"I know the walk will be tough," she said. "The longest I've ever walked in the past is 50 miles, so I'm doubling that distance, but I know that every penny I raise makes a real difference to the lives of people in our town."
First Stop, based in Tubwell Row, aims to tackle the root causes of homelessness in Darlington, offering shelter, support, advice and facilities to thousands each year.
Chief officer Karen Grundy said: "The contribution of people like Helen is vital to help us continue our services.
"We are a registered charity and have to find £250,000 each year. The more people there are like Helen helping us, the more people we can help."
