A NEW video club has been set up for young people following a rise in anti-social behaviour.
The People's Video Club opens at 5pm tomorrow, in Hetton, set up by police and businesses following complaints about rowdy behaviour in the area.
The move comes in response to a number of incidents of drink-related disorder involving young people in the area on Friday nights.
Cash donated by the police has been used to buy a DVD player and portable large screen, Zodiac Video Store has donated free DVDs and use of the hall at the Hetton Centre, in Welfare Road, has also been donated.
Community beat manager PC Joe Dow said: "Youths in Hetton didn't just need the authorities to move them on.
"A longer-term solution was needed to divert their attention.
"By combining resources with other agencies, we have put together what we hope is an enjoyable alternative."
Club membership, which is open to youngsters from Hetton aged from 12 to 16, is free. Membership forms are available from the Hetton Centre reception.
