RESIDENTS are being asked to dig in and help rejuvenate a neglected beauty spot.
The community clean-up is being organised by Groundwork South Tees and Skelton Villages Environmental Improvement Group to help improve the Layland Beck area.
The co-ordinated operation in east Cleveland this weekend will remove fly-tipping and litter, clean the beck, improve access for walkers, provide seating and plant more flowers and trees.
The event will be led by Groundwork staff, but a number of other environmental organisations are also supporting the project, including Tees Valley Wildlife Trust, The Tees Forest and Wildflower Ark.
Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council will also be represented though Green And Clean team members, who will assist with removal of larger and heavier items.
Sarah Ransome, community project officer with Groundwork South Tees, said: "Layland Beck is an important piece of green space and is already a haven for wildlife. The group wish to enhance the beauty of the area and make it easier for people to use for recreation and relaxation."
Any members of the public wishing to lend a hand on Saturday are more than welcome. Groundwork will provide gloves, but volunteers are advised to wear suitable old clothing and stout footwear.
