A CASH-STRAPPED playgroup has been saved by local businesses and organisations.
Brooklyn Playgroup, which is the only playgroup in Norton, ran into financial difficulties last year when the number of children attending dropped.
It was threatened with closure and was forced to cancel its Christmas party, leading parents and playgroup leaders to appeal for help.
After donations and grants, social secretary Mary Rohan said the deficit had been cleared.
She said: "We still have to continue fundraising as £2,000 needs to be raised to cover the shortfall of costs, but we now have a business plan and playgroup numbers have increased, and we are almost full.
"With the community's help, we have been able to keep such an important playgroup."
