RESIDENTS in Darlington have declared their intention to fight plans to demolish a hotel.
A public meeting to organise opposition to a scheme to pull down the White Horse Hotel in Harrowgate Hill, attracted dozens of residents.
Premier Homes UK has submitted plans to Darlington Borough Council to demolish the pub and hotel and build 24 one-bedroom and 40 two-bedroom flats.
The meeting in Whessoe village hall was organised by the parish council and was attended by about 100 people.
The parish council is contacting Darlington Civic Trust for its support, and an organisation called Planning Aid North, which offers advice on planning issues to communities who cannot afford a consultant.
Resident Michael Cartwright will represent the community when the plan comes before a Darlington Borough Council planning committee - expected to be on May 11.
Parish council chairman Richard Johnson also urged people to lodge their complaints with the borough's planning department.
Mr Cartwright has set up a campaign web site and is encouraging people to leave their comments.
The new web site can be accessed at www.SaveTheWhiteHorse.org
