STAFF and students at a north Durham school are celebrating after receiving a glowing report from inspectors.
South Pelaw Infants' School was described as outstanding following an Ofsted inspection.
It gained A-stars in ten areas it was assessed on and As in the other two.
Headteacher Irene Cochrane said: "We are all delighted at this achievement.
"We work very hard as a team to ensure all children reach their full potential.
"Our proactive approach, high expectations and innovative curriculum are all contributory factors.
"Governors, staff and parents, and of course the children themselves, deserve the recognition."
Inspectors visited the school and observed teachers and pupils in June last year.
Doris Bell, who led the team, said the quality of teaching was very good and that reading, writing and mathematics were very well taught.
She found assessment systems very good and that information gained from them was used in planning.
Ms Bell concluded the needs of all pupils were very effectively met.
Chairman of governors Marion Smith said: "South Pelaw Infant School is a happy school where the children love to be, and that is reflected in the high academic standards they have achieved. They all deserve praise for all their hard work and achievements.
"I am proud to be associated with South Pelaw infants and especially proud to be chairman of governors at this outstanding school."
