A NEW supermarket has opened, marking the latest stage in the redevelopment of a town centre.
The Catterick Garrison Aldi store was opened yesterday by Garrison Commander Johnny Hackett.
The shop is the latest big name to open a branch in the town centre, where the Army has a multi-million pound redevelopment vision over the coming years.
The ceremony also marked the reopening of the gate to Coronation Park, which has been closed while the supermarket was being built.
Playing at the ceremony were four buglers from the Normandy Band.
Store manager Harry Elliot is a former non-commissioned officer based at Catterick.
He said: "Our new store will provide the customer with a simplistic and comfortable retail environment, making it easier to find the products they want in their weekly shop.
"We are proud to offer such a wide selection of quality goods at great value, and look forward to welcoming new customers to the store."
