FAMILY and friends of a young mother found dead in a stream laid moving tributes yesterday at the spot where her body was found.

A note from Kerry Deighton's young daughter said: "To mum, I don't care where ever you are. I'll always be there for you. I miss you loads, so does dad."

Police say they are treating the death of the 33-year-old, from Rutland Close, Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire, as unexplained, but say she does not appear to have been the victim of a violent assault.

A post-mortem examination on Saturday night did not reveal a cause of death.

Her body was found in the stream running through Catterick Garrison's Coronation Park by a group of children walking dogs at 3pm on Saturday. She was lying in six inches of water in the stream - behind the garrison's new Aldi store - between a road bridge and a footbridge.

Police cordoned off a 200-yard section of the stream while forensic officers investigated.

One man in his 20s, who was walking along the footpath next to the stream, said: "Some young kids found the body lying in the water and ran to tell someone who called the police. It has caused a lot of shock on the camp. Most people here are Army families and everyone looks out for each other."

Yesterday, flowers and flags bearing the cross of St George were laid next to the stream. One message read: "Just tell me why?"

Detectives are now trying to piece together the hours leading up to Ms Deighton's death. They believe she was drinking with friends on Friday night in Jesters pub and Louies Bar on the garrison.

She is white, 5ft 7ins, stocky with short dark hair. She has a tattoo and was wearing silver jewellery, black boots, blue jeans, a black T-shirt with a red and black motif and a black bomber jacket.

A police spokesman said: "Officers want to hear from anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious on or near the roundabout at the garrison centre.

"They also want to hear from anyone who saw a lone woman in that area and from anyone who saw her between late on Friday night up to 3pm on Saturday."
