A TEENAGE musician is relying on a little help from her friends to make it to an international event for Girl Guides.

Anna Donaghy, 17, of Tow Law, County Durham, is one of eight people representing the North-East at the Icelandic National Jamboree, in July.

After successfully completing two selection weekends, she has to organise fundraising events to contribute towards the cost of the week-long trip.

Anna, a leader with the 1st Tow Law Rainbows and Brownies, has gathered together a group of talented friends for a Musical Miscellany concert she has organised, in Tow Law Community Centre on Saturday.

Schoolmates from Wolsingham School and Community College will take to the stage with Anna's colleagues from the Durham County Youth Orchestra and Durham County Youth Choir.

The school's head of music, Andrew Fowler, is making a guest appearance, the accompanist is Joan Turnbull and compere is Vera Selby, a former women's world snooker champion, international snooker referee and public speaker.

The Tow Law Brownies will perform a selection of songs.

Anna found sporting support from Sunderland and Middlesbrough football clubs, who gave raffle prizes along with local sports leagues and businesses.

She said: "I have a lot of friends who are musical and a lot of them are coming along."

Before she goes to Iceland, Anna is taking her A-level exams and hopes to study English literature at York University.

Musical Miscellany starts at 7pm on Saturday. Tickets are £2, £1 for under-16s, from (01388) 730444.
