There was yet another twist in the three-horse race for the championship when Darlington RA conceded their first away points of the season on Saturday.

Dave Woodcock's side visited Perth Green protecting a 100 per cent record on opponents' soil but it was Jarrow who came out on top. And with Coxhoe Athletic and Stokesley SC both winning, the title is all to play for.

Dean Patten was the hero for Jarrow scoring both his side's goals. On 36 minutes he fastened onto a free-kick, drew two defenders before beating goalkeeper Robert Hawman.

Jarrow appeared to have sewn up the result when Patton struck again five minutes from time, running towards goal before beating Hawman.

RA, though, threw themselves a lifeline a minute later as Stephen Sinclair got on to the end of a quickly taken free -kick to beat goalkeeper Jonathan Carmichael from close-range.

Earlier, Carmichael kept Jarrow in the game with two outstanding saves and in a frenetic final four minutes he again came to their rescue as RA threw everything into attack.

There were cries of joy in the Coxhoe Athletic dressing room when news of RA's reverse filtered through within minutes of them defeating Windscale by an only goal.

Manager Gary Forrest admitted the Cumbrians had given his side a good game and only a special goal from Michael Hodgson earned a crucial victory.

With the game heading for a draw, Hodgson struck a magnificent shot from fully 35 yards which flashed into the net. Coxhoe though were still lucky and with almost the last kick of the game Windscale hit woodwork.

Coxhoe are now ten points behind RA with three games in hand while Stokesley are 14 points off the top and have played three fewer games than the leaders.

Stuart Wise scored Stokesley's only goal on 70 minutes against Birtley Town, who had won 13 of their previous 14 fixtures.

At the bottom, Ferryhill Athletic gained a point at Ryhope CW. After Tony Stebbings gave them a 20th-minute lead, the visitors fell behind to a brace from Michael Pattison but Paul Gibson levelled.

Gateshead Reserves, who lost by the odd goal in three to Harton and Westoe, are seven points ahead having played five games fewer than Ferryhill.

Neil Archbold and Dale Wells (pen) were on target for Harton with Reuben Florez equalising for Gateshead.

James Kesterton (two) and Ben Walker led New Marske to a 3-1 victory at home to Cleator Moor Celtic who were in front courtesy of Darren Mahon.

Michael Murray hit a 30-yard winner for Annfield Plain, his shot entering the net after it had rebounded from the crossbar and struck Shotton Comrades goalkeeper Steve Jewson.

The South Tyneside derby at Cleadon SC went to Boldon CA.
