POLICE were last night hunting two men who ran off after the van they were travelling in crashed into a car, careered into a lamppost and then overturned outside a North-East hotel.
The accident happened at about 10.45pm on Sunday, outside the Blackwell Grange Hotel, in Darlington, on the approach to the Reg Vardy roundabout.
Sergeant John Spooner, of Darlington police, said: "We think the van was driving in a dangerous manner and tried to overtake another car but pulled back in too quickly.
"Then the van hit the kerb, hit a lamppost and overturned.
"The two male occupants threatened the man in the other car and then made off when police were called.
"A full search was carried out, including air support, but we didn't find them. However, it is a local van and we are investigating."
The van was described as a white Mercedes panelled van. The other car was a Toyota family car.
Sgt Spooner said the police already had one witness, but urged anyone else who had seen the van or the accident and might be able to identify the men, to get in touch, on 0845 60 60 365.
