FAMILY and friends of a young mother found dead in a stream have laid moving tributes at the spot where her body was found.
Police say they are treating the death of 33-year-old Kerry Deighton, of Rutland Close, Catterick Garrison, as unexplained, but say she does not appear to have been the victim of a violent assault.
Her body was found in the stream running through Coronation Park in Catterick Garrison, by a group of children walking dogs at about 3pm on Saturday.
She was lying in six inches of water in the stream - behind the garrison's new Aldi store - between a road bridge and a footbridge.
Police cordoned off a 200-yard section of the stream while forensic officers investigated. A post-mortem examination on Saturday night did not reveal a cause of death.
Flowers and flags bearing the cross of St George were laid next to the stream.
One message read: "To mum, I don't care where ever you are. I'll always be there for you. I miss you loads, so does dad."
Another read: "Just tell me why?"
A neighbour said the dead woman was well-known and well-liked. "We are all in shock," she said.
Detectives are now trying to piece together the hours leading up to Ms Deighton's death. They believe she was drinking with friends on Friday night in Jesters pub and Louies Bar in the garrison.
She is described as white, 5ft 7in, stocky with short dark hair. She had a tattoo and was wearing silver jewellery, black boots, blue jeans, a black T-shirt with a red and black motif and a black bomber jacket.
A police spokesman said: "Officers want to hear from anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious on or near the roundabout at the garrison centre.
"They also want to hear from anyone who saw a lone woman in that area and from anyone who saw her between late on Friday night up to 3pm on Saturday."
