MODULAR construction specialist Yorkon has reached a milestone in its partnership with supermarket chain Tesco.
The York company has won its 50th contract to build a Tesco Express convenience store. It will provide Britain's biggest supermarket retailer with a 3,000sq ft site near Liverpool.
Keith Blanshard, director and general manager, said: "This partnership is the result of long-term commitment and a process of continuous improvement on the part of both organisations."
Yorkon, a subsidiary of Portakabin, employs about 1,000 people at its plant in Huntington, near York.
It offers Tesco three modular designs for Express stores and petrol station forecourt shops.
They are built by manufacturing steel-framed modules in a factory, using production line methods, while the foundations are completed on site.
It means the buildings can be delivered and placed in position in days, with a typical completion time of four weeks.
The partnership with Tesco has earned Yorkon about £11m in the past four years.
