A TOWN has welcomed a new police community safety officer who is taking to the streets this week.
PCSO Kate Johnson has joined Shildon Police Station and will be patrolling the streets of the town on a full time basis.
Sgt Steve Ball, of Shildon Police, said that PCSO Johnson will take an active role in policing the town and her appointment will increase police visibility in the area.
He said: "Kate comes from the Stanley area and has come highly recommended for the post.
"She has a lot of experience and it is great to have her on board.''
PCSO Johnson will be able to tackle everyday policing problems and will also be able to issue tickets for driving offences.
She said: "I am looking forward to getting out and about in the town and making a difference to the community of Shildon."
