MIDDLESBROUGH'S bars and pubs are being urged to get their applications for a new alcohol licence submitted before time is called.
Businesses have until August 6 to apply for a new style licence, but so far the town's council has only received one application from a list of around 600 watering holes.
The 2003 Licensing Act has swept away a host of licences for pubs, nightclubs, restaurants, late-night cafes, cinemas and theatres, replacing them with new premises, club or personal licences - all administered by the council.
Businesses can get advice and application forms from the council's website at www.middlesbrough.gov.uk or from the council's Licensing Office, on (01642) 729779.
