THE story of one of the country's most celebrated amateur football clubs is starting a new chapter with the re-release of a book reflecting its vibrant history.
Fifty years to the day that Bishop Auckland stormed to victory in the FA Amateur Cup in front of a 100,000-strong crowd, author Chris Foote Wood has announced he will re-release his book recounting its glory years.
Mr Foote Wood is hoping that the new version will be bigger, better and more colourful than the first edition he wrote 20 years ago.
He said: "Ever since I wrote that book, people have been pressing me to write a more updated version.
"The day after it came out all kinds of people were coming up to me saying that they had all sorts of old pictures and stories that could have helped.
"This is why I am appealing to those people now to come forward with what they have. I want this to be a definitive history of what is the most famous amateur football club of all time.''
Mr Foote Wood launched his quest at a reception at The Discovery Centre, in Bishop Auckland, on Saturday, along with the club's chairman Terry Jackson, manager Brian Honour and former players George Siddle and Michael Barker.
Mr Jackson said: "I can remember when the book was first published and I read it straight away.
"I am delighted that the club's history is being recognised. We wish Chris the best of luck and we will do what we can to assist him."
