A CRACKDOWN on anti-social behaviour and low-level crime was launched in a County Durham village yesterday.
The Streetsafe initiative in Pelton, near Chester-le-Street, involves a range of agencies aiming to improve the quality of life for residents.
It is the third Streetsafe initiative introduced by Durham Constabulary, with previous campaigns in Brandon and Sacriston hailed as successes.
The fire and rescue service, Chester-le-Street District Council, Durham County Council, DVLA, youth engagement service and local schools will join in the three-month campaign.
The initiative will include high visibility patrols and crime prevention events, as well as improvements to street lighting, truancy sweeps and advice on preventing fires at home.
