DETECTIVES investigating the death of a student are trying to piece together her final hours.

Kimberley Bage, 16, was found with multiple stab wounds at her mother's home in Troutpool Close, Hartlepool on Friday at about mid-day.

Police are anxious to know where she had been and what she had been doing from the previous morning.

Dozens of people have already called the incident room in Hartlepool, but detectives last night appealed from more help.

Detective Inspector John Chapman said: "I would like to thank the people of Hartlepool for coming forward - plenty of them have, and they have provided us with useful information.

"But I would like to reiterate our appeal about anyone who has seen anything, heard anything or, indeed, has been told anything about this very tragic event, to come forward.

"We want to know about Kimberley's movements from first thing on Thursday morning until the tragic discovery of her body at around midday on Friday."

Detectives have said she was the victim of a frenzied knife attack and fought for some time with her killer.

She was said by neighbours and former teachers to be a well-liked, bright youngster.

She attended St Helen's Primary School on the Headland, before moving to St Hild's secondary school where she gained good GCSE grades.

St Hild's deputy headteacher Lynn Gill said: "It was with both sadness and shock that we heard the news of Kimberley's death."

l Paul Andrew Knappett, 29, of Wentworth Grove, Hartlepool, has been charged with murder and is being held in custody until an appearance at Teesside Crown Court next Tuesday.
