A MURDER inquiry into the death of a 58-year-old grandmother was called off last night after a post-mortem examination revealed she died of natural causes.
A 40-year-old man who had been arrested was released and bailed pending inquiries.
Police and paramedics were called to The Retreat, off Chester Road, Sunderland, after a woman, who has not been named by police, was found outside her home on Monday evening.
She was taken to Sunderland Royal Infirmary shortly after 11pm, but was pronounced dead.
Her home was cordoned off early yesterday to allow forensic examinations to be carried out.
Police also spent the morning carrying out house-to-house inquiries.
Police were at the front and back doors of the premises while inquiries continued.
Late yesterday afternoon, the results of a post-mortem examination were forwarded to police.
