A ST George's Day celebration will take place in Crook on Saturday.
The Crook Community Partnership is staging the event, between 10am and 2pm, in and around St Catherine's Community Centre, in the Market Place.
Children will be able to have their faces painted, a magician will wander through the town and, to start off the festivities, mothers and toddlers will parade in historical fancy dress.
The partnership has also organised a dragon hunt and dragon model-making sessions at the centre.
The finale will be an outdoor church service and with music by the Salvation Army Brass Band.
Graeme Fancourt, chairman of Crook Community Partnership, said: "We celebrate St Patrick's Day but we seem to ignore the Patron Saint of England.
"I don't understand why people don't celebrate St George.
"This year we want to set a trend with a town celebration.
