RESIDENTS have been warned about a burglar alarm company approaching homeowners under the pretence of working with police.
The firm has told residents Cleveland Police asked it to work in areas where there have been burglaries.
A salesman then visits the property to inspect the alarm system before attempting to sell a new one.
Cleveland Police has dismissed the salesmen's claim.
Detective Sergeant Greg Swinerton said: "Cleveland Police does not, and will never, endorse what amounts to unscrupulous tactics and would advice anyone who receives calls of this nature to remember, 'if in doubt, keep them out'."
If anyone requires information relating to home security they are urged to contact their local crime reduction officer on (01642) 326326.
