A WOMAN has been inspired by her loved ones to tackle some of the most remote and diverse landscapes in the world in a bid to raise money for charity.
Melanie Stewart, of Crook, has been training hard for the challenges she faces in July as she boosts funds for Macmillan Cancer Relief.
Miss Stewart, 23, will take on active volcanoes, a black ash desert and icecaps to complete the 100km Iceland Hiking Trek.
She said: "I can't wait to get over there. I know its going to be such an adventure but its also no holiday.
"I have trained hard for this. I want to give my best knowing every penny I raise will help people living with cancer.''
The nine-day trek starts on July 16, and in order to take part Miss Stewart must raise at least £2,000. She is appealing for help with her mission.
She said: "I am taking part in the challenge because the lives of two people I love very much have been changed forever by cancer.
"I want to help give something back to Macmillan after all they have done to help my family.''
Anyone willing to sponsor Miss Stewart is asked to contact her on (01388) 766566.
