WARREN Hughes notched up TVR's first ever international sportscar win at the weekend with victory in the first round of the European Le Mans Series (LMES) at Spa in Belgium.
The prestigious European Series opener, a 1000km event, saw a big entry list with 16 GT2 cars on the 46 car starting grid. But from the beginning of practice through to qualifying, Sunderland's Hughes and team-mate Jonny Kane, in their Team LNT TVR, were never out of the top four in the GT2 class.
Team owner Lawrence Tomlinson was delighted.
"What a result, a one-two finish and eighth and tenth overall," said Tomlinson. "Team LNT have worked so hard during the winter to develop these cars and we are seeing the fruits of our work. Alan Mugglestone, our engineer, called the race to perfection today and Warren and Jonny executed it perfectly. They were magnificent. They are undoubtedly the strongest driver pairing in the field and this, combined with further development of the TVR, makes me very optimistic for the rest of the season."
The next race for Hughes is round two of the British GT Championship but this event will run at Magny Cours in France. The race will be run as part of the European FIA GT Championship, a three-hour event, with the British competitors scoring points towards their own domestic championship.
