DURHAM Choral Society will open its 2005 season in Durham Cathedral next month with performances of 20th Century music.
The main feature of the concert on Saturday, May 21, will be Karl Jenkins' The Armed Man, which was commissioned by The Royal Armouries museum, in Leeds, to celebrate the millennium and is a mass for peace.
Also featuring will be Constant Lambert's The Rio Grande and The Kestrel Road, by Sir Peter Maxwell Davies, Master of the Queen's Musick.
"Sir Peter recently celebrated his 70th birthday and as president of Making Music was commissioned to compose a piece in honour of that occasion. Durham Choral is pleased to perform it here in the North-East," said a spokesman for the society.
The concert starts at 7.30pm.
Tickets cost £14, £9 and £6 and are available from Durham Tourist Information Centre, Millennium Square, Durham, 0191-384 7641, or by post from D Crookes, 9a Church Street, Durham, DH1 3DG.
