SEVEN candidates are contesting the Redcar constituency in next month's General Election.
The nominations are: Vera Baird (Labour), Andrew Philip Harris (British National Party), Jonathan James Lehrle (Conservative), Christopher Sean McGlade (Independent), Ian Cameron Swales (Liberal Democrat), John Roy Taylor (Socialist Labour), Edward Alexander Walker (United Kingdom Independent).
The 2001 result was: Vera Baird (Labour) 23,026, Christopher Main (Conservative) 9,583, Stan Wilson (Liberal Democrat) 4,817, John Taylor (Socialist Labour) 772.
Five candidates will contest the Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland constituency. The nominations are: Mark James Brooks (Conservative), Charlotte Elizabeth Bull (United Kingdom Independent), Geoffrey Mark Groves (British National Party), Ashok Kumar (Labour), Carl Minns (Liberal Democrat). The 2001 result was: Ashok Kumar (Labour) 24,321, Barbara Harpham (Conservative) 14,970, Linda Parrish (Liberal Democrat) 4,700.
There will also be a by-election on Thursday, May 5, for a vacant seat in Redcar and Cleveland Council's Westworth ward. The nominations are: Denise Georgina Bunn (Labour), Michael George King (Conservative), Barry Malcolm Parvin (Independent), David Williams (East Cleveland Independent).
