POLICE announced early today that they had charged two men in connection with the murder of a man stabbed to death in the street.
Cleveland Police said one man had been charged with the murder of Craig Stephenson and the other with violent disorder and possession of an offensive weapon.
Both men are due to appear before Teesside Magistrates' Court this morning, police said.
Mr Stephenson, 23, died after suffering a single stab wound to the chest in Keith Road, Middlesbrough, on Thursday night.
Police found him lying in a pool of blood at about 10.30pm. Despite being rushed to hospital, he later died.
Before this morning's announcement, police had been granted an extension to continue to detain two men, aged 18 and 20, by Teesside Magistrates' Court.
Over the weekend, about 35 officers were conducting house-to-house inquiries on the Grove Hill estate where the killing took place.
Detective Chief Inspector Rob Donaghy, of Cleveland Police, said: "There are still people in the community who have information and have yet to come forward."
Anyone with information is asked to call Cleveland Police on (01642) 303189.
