PLANS to build sports facilities in two isolated villages have been given the go-ahead.

Fundraisers in Gillamoor and Fadmoor, near Kirkbymoorside, have been granted approval for the two-phase project by planners at the North York Moors National Park Authority.

Phase one will see a multi- sports and games area built, including a five-a-side football court, tennis courts, basketball and netball facilities.

The second phase will be a play area, including a zip wire, swings, twin climbing towers and adventure trails. Both will be built at Gillamoor Cricket Field.

Sue Hayhurst, of the Gillamoor and Fadmoor Playing Fields Association, said: "This is going to mean a complete and utter difference.

"Since time began, Fadmoor and Gillamoor have had nothing, we've relied on cars to get everywhere and it will make a huge difference to the school, which only has a yard for sports and has to use buses to get to facilities, cutting down their sports time."
