A PROJECT by the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) to encourage Darlington's elderly population to claim their benefit entitlements has got off to a great start.
In one month, the over-75s project has helped more than 50 people in the town by providing them with a confidential and free benefit check - helping them to claim more than £25,000 of extra income.
One couple who used the service increased their income by £250 per week.
Many people, who are over 75, fail to claim their benefit entitlements, particularly those who have disabilities.
Those who want to talk to a CAB advisor can telephone or drop in to the centre.
The CAB is working with GP surgeries across Darlington, starting with Neasham Road Surgery - which has identified potential beneficiaries and sent out a letter explaining the project.
