SOME people never learn do they? Motorcyclist David Robinson was caught travelling at 130mph on the A19 in the North-East - and then stopped 24 hours later for speeding at 107mph.
In mitigation, Robinson's solicitor said he had not put other road users in any danger.
That is, of course, utter nonsense. Anyone travelling at that kind of speed has to be putting the lives of others at risk.
As the family of ten-year-old Laura Burrows-Schofield know only too well, speeding kills. As we reported at the end of last week, Laura died when she was knocked off her bike by a motorist driving at 55mph in a 40mph zone in Durham.
Experts said that she would not have been killed if the car had been driving within the speed limit.
We urged readers to remember Laura when they were driving so that other lives might be saved.
We are gratified to report today that motorists have reacted positively to that appeal, with a number contacting us to say they have stuck Laura's photograph to the dashboards of their cars as a reminder of the dangers of speeding.
As a result of riding his motorycle at speeds of 130mph and 107mph on successive days, David Robinson is banned from the roads for six months.
We suggest that he spends those six months thinking of Laura and gets it into his stupid skull that speeding kills.
