FORMER ICI and Ford chairman Lord Alex Trotman has died at the age of 71.
Lord Trotman, who was a director of ICI during its restructuring period from 1997, and then chairman in 2002 and 2003, spent most of his career at Ford motors.
ICI chairman Peter Ellwood said last night he was "shocked and saddened" at the news.
Lord Trotman had previously been chairman and chief executive of Ford from 1993 to 1998 - having joined as a young man.
Following service as a flying officer-navigator in the Royal Air Force, he joined Ford of Britain as a student trainee in 1955, and moved to the US in 1969.
He was elected to the Ford board on January 1, 1993.
He served as a member of the board of directors for IBM, and of the New York Stock Exchange. In 1996, he was knighted, and was created a life peer in 1999.
