ENTHUSIASTS will turn out in force this week to see a stained glass window they helped to design being installed in their village hall.
Twenty local residents attended workshops to learn how to create pictures using coloured glass for the hall at Barningham, near Barnard Castle.
They decided to have the £5,000 window made with the help of an expert, Joanna Hedley, of Newcastle, when the woodwork on a plain window started to rot and had to be replaced.
Joyce Brown, a member of the hall committee, said: "Everyone is excited to hear that the new window has been completed and is ready to be delivered.
"Instead of just putting in an ordinary replacement, we decided to fit something really special that can be admired by people for generations to come."
The project received grants from the National Lottery and Durham County Council, and the remainder was raised locally.
The window will arrive on Thursday morning. Villagers will watch as the old one is taken out the new one installed. There will be a function in the hall next Monday to let everyone admire and discuss the window.
