MOVES to create a rubbish tip near a nature reserve should be dropped, says an environmental group.
The Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE) has tabled strong objections over plans to establish a public amenity waste tip for household and garden refuse on land off Brickyard Lane, Bar Lane, Roecliffe, near Boroughbridge.
Although no planning application for the project has been sent to North Yorkshire County Council, the site has been set aside for a tip in the county-wide draft waste plan.
In an attempt to halt any development, Linda Potter, chairwoman of the Harrogate and District CPRE, has written to planners at North Yorkshire County Council and Harrogate Borough Council.
She said that because it was near a Site of Importance for Nature Conservation and a public right of way, the CPRE did not feel the project should go ahead on the suggested site.
