THREE new-born lambs have taken up residence at a perfectly-named place -The Ewe Centre.
The centre -full name Esh Winning Eco-Learning Centre -is at Esh Winning Primary School and aims to encourage schools to hold more lessons outdoors. The lambs, which came from the farm at Sedgefield Community College, will be looked after by pupils at the school through the week.
They will then spend the weekends at the home of teacher Jean Mace, who has a farm.
By coincidence, the centre has a new administrative officer -Nikki Lamb - who used to work at Derwentside College.
Centre co-ordinator Rich Hurst: "We were given the lambs to look after because their mothers could not look after them because they'd had quads or triplets. The children will be bottle feeding them and they will be here for the summer term.
"We will be getting a larger flock of sheep, which will be kept in pens we have created here."
The centre, set up by Durham County Council and Groundwork North-East, aims to show schools how they can develop their grounds to teach sustainability and promote outdoor learning.
People can find out more about the centre from its website www.ewecentre.org.uk
