THREE library workers from Darlington will swap their books for bikes when they hit the open road this weekend to cycle across the country for a local charity.
Michael Wilkinson, 25, Chris Holmes, 19, and Jonathan Goldberg, 30, who all work at the Crown Street Library, in Darlington, will be cycling 210 miles from west to east along the coast-to-coast route from St Bees, in Cumbria, to Robin Hood's Bay, in North Yorkshire.
They hope to raise more than £400 to buy new computers for Tees Valley Cruse Bereavement Care.
The three men found out about the need for equipment from one of the volunteers who works for the charity, and decided to use the trip to help raise funds.
They leave St Bees tomorrow and hope to reach Robin Hood's Bay on Bank Holiday Monday.
They will be staying in hostels and bed and breakfast accommodation along the route.
This is the first time the three cyclists have taken on such a ride and hopes are high that they will be able to complete it.
To help raise more money for new technology, members of Tees Valley Cruse Bereavement Care are organising other fundraising activities such as a sponsored walk up Skiddaw, in the Lake District.
