A CHARITY has been given £10,000 to support people suffering from dementia as well as their families and carers.
The Alzheimer's Society Derwentside got the money from Lloyds TSB Foundation to employ an information and education worker. The successful candidate will help raise awareness about dementia.
They will also work in the community, including at GP surgeries.
Branch administrator Terry Coyle said: "With over 100 people benefiting from our services each yea, and with nearly 50 new referrals in the last 12 months, our services are in huge demand.
"Now, with this generous grant from Lloyds TSB Foundation, we can continue to offer a comprehensive service to everyone."
This year, the independent foundation has £22.5m to give to registered charities nationally with more than £1.1m for North-East groups.
