A MAN was freed by firefighters yesterday after his tractor overturned and trapped his foot.
The man, believed to be in his late 40s, was thrown out of the vehicle when it toppled over on muddy ground.
It landed on his foot, crushing his ankle.
He was trapped for an hour while the emergency services released him.
Paramedics were called to the accident, at Osgoodby, near Thirsk, North Yorkshire, at about 8.45am. They called firefighters from Ripon to use lifting equipment to free the man. Firefighter Lee Jones said: "The equipment proved invaluable in this situation. We used heavy lifting airbags, rams and cutters in order to free him."
The Great North Air Ambulance was called to the scene and a doctor on board sedated the man while he was released.
He was then flown to hospital with serious leg injuries.
